ConTraSt

Cognitive science platform for researchers

I designed an open access platform for cognitive researchers to visualize and collect meta-data

Contrast is a cognitive research platform that aggregates meta-data from thousands of academic studies worldwide. I was commissioned as a part of a team that developed a custom web-app for ConTraSt's expansion, that revolved around two core design challenges:

  1. Redesigning the existing data visualization system, making it more valuable for researchers
  2. To map, plan and design the complex data submission process, removing friction and encouraging users to contribute papers to database.

I structured the redesign around two core UX goals:

Making the data-visualization interface friendlier and useful to researchers

  • Designing a more familiar data visualization interface to allow easy exploration of cognitive research trends.
  • Reinforcing engagement by allowing users to copy & download generated charts and data, highlighting the platform’s value.

  • Simplifying and motivating research submissions
    • Creating a step-by-step guided submission process to reduce cognitive load.
    • Implementing dynamic form validation to help researchers format data correctly.
    • Designing progress tracking methods to give users a sense of progression and achievement.
